Confession: When I quit my "good" job, and started farming, I had nothing. One thing I did for cash was clean up junk piles around the home(Dad's) farm. In the bottom of one pile was a complete JD horse drawn sickle bar mower. Off it went. I later found why it was setting there. Hired man had stepped in front of it to unplug it, and horses spooked. He was cared for with whatever they had then, but died of gangrene. I have since seen like mowers painted up as yard art. I wish I had saved it. It's tough to be broke.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet).
