The AVERAGE high school grad should be able to spell correctly. Grammar and sentence structure starts at home. That said, not all of us are born with the ability to attain a high level of correctness in this subject. I know several dyslexics who are very intelligent but their brain isn't wired to process the written word correctly. I come from a post graduate educated family. I grew up with parents who used good sentence structure. We did not yell, we did not swear, we were proper. Spelling came easy for me in school. Regretfully I have lost some of it through the years. A close neighbor family with 8 kids also was a proper acting family. The mother in that family won the Nebraska state spelling contest. All of the kids in that family were smart as a whip and went on to achieve at least a four year college education. NONE of them could spell worth a hoot! Some of them have gone on to have a business of their own but they rely on the secretary to do the spelling.
I will never correct bad spelling on this forum. If at a weak moment I do correct someone, give me a good slap! I am not perfect so why should I criticize others?
