Originally there was an 8630 and an 8430 new on this farm. The 86 is long gone but the 8430 still does all of the disking and cultivating. She's a good tractor with just over 10,000 hours on it. We put a 50 series engine in it some years ago. It should be good for at least 20 more.
That cab may be roomy, but it's the dustiest and dirtiest cab I have. I can't wait to get in the shower after a day on that machine. Even with the air cranked all the way to help pressurize the cab you can just watch it sift in through every little crack and gap.
Funny story about the 84. The engine in it was worn slap out. The dealership here put that 50 series engine in it with a one year warranty. Literally one day before the warranty expired at 4:00 it threw a rod. The phone call to the dealership was just in time. The old boy that owned Underwoods was so mad he was just fuming. No way around it - it was under warranty. The replacement 50 series engine hasn't so much as coughed. Thank goodness.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
