Interesting discussion. Referring to the color of containers, this is mainly for emergency responders in case of accident, the same as Haz-Mat placards/stickers. A day or so ago, one poster referred to racing fuel or such that came in other colored containers with markings. In transit from manufacturer to retailer it would be factory sealed, the fill/pour spout would not be likely to break off, and the placards on truck would cover warning to rescue personnel. However, the poster's method of attaching a spout would put the can out of compliance. With the 8 gallon container rule, now we all know why portable tanks for boats are the size they are. Willie

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
