I think some of them have adapted the same business model as the cable, TV dish and cell phone folks, jack the rates up on existing customers and count on their loyalty. As far as USAA they're an insurance company, better than average but still willing to mistreat you on a claim and minimize their liability at your expense. It's particularly bad it you're in a No-Fault State or dealing with them on a claim for you vehicle on your policy. On the other hand if someone with USAA insurance hits you and they're paying they can be pretty darn nice and efficient and you can get the repair done right with the parts you want to use. Spent most of last summer dealing with them on a claim they morphed into two and ended up taking two days off of work for their friggin adjuster not to come out. Of course he wouldn't come the 2nd time because the local LEOs were looking for him from an incident during the first visit. It cost me an extra $50 for the comprehensive claim but cost them an extra $1,600 but they're happy 'cause they got me to pony up the extra $50. I suspect they're also big fans of Bernie.
