I know the manager of my local O'Reilly store and he knows me. He is about the only stable item in the parts store as all the employees appear to be different each time I go in the store. I buy from O'Reillys if I need the part NOW. I buy from RockAuto if I need the part in a few days. Also, O'Reillys can get parts for trucks over one ton. Autozone will tell you to hit the road. With that being said, there is one good feature about O'Reillys that MIGHT come in handy for you antique tractor guys. O'Reillys carries the Wilson branded starters, generators and alternators. If your unit is burned beyond repair (BTW, I rebuild my own, but sometimes when an armature or a winding burns out on a rare piece, I'll send it in), you can take it to O'Reillys and they will send it in to have it fixed. You don't want to be in a hurry here, because it will take about 30 days. However, since the truck is going to and from the Wilson rebuilding shop anyway, the freight to and back is free. They will only charge you for the cost of the rebuild, but not the freight charges. IMO, Wilson is a decent rebuilder. Now, before somebody jumps all over me "because I didn't take it to a local rebuilder", I HAVE taken stuff to the local boys. One shop didn't work on my generator for nine months, but kept saying "I'll get to it this weekend" as I picked it up and walked it to my truck. Another local "rebuilder" promised it in 30 days, but just sent it off to somebody else to rebuild it and I got it back 90 days later, charging me for the cost of the rebuild plus UPS shipping both ways. So please don't get on my case for not taking it to a local rebuilder. O'Reillys has good and bad features. Just know exactly what you want before you go into the store.

Today's Featured Article - Grain Threshing in the Early 40's - by Jerry D. Coleman. How many of you can sit there and say that you have plowed with a mule? Well I would say not many, but maybe a few. This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
