I do not know where the "bad" reputation on the JD 566 baler came from. They where rock solid around here. Find a JD 566 with the MEGA pickup. NOT the MEGA WIDE just the plain Mega pickup. It has heavier teeth and drives over the regular pickup. The JD 566 over he JD 535 is mainly the mesh wrap system and monitor. The JD 535 is a mechanical/hydraulic system. The JD 566 is electric with actuators. If you do not switch from twine to mesh or change bale size much then the JD 535 would be fine IF you can find a good one. They are getting older. The JD 566 has a much better monitor if your changing bale size and switching from mesh to twine often.
We do custom baling so we put a lot of bale through a baler. The JD 535 balers took some playing with to get the right amount of mesh on when you switched from twine to mesh. Also in the fall they would put more mesh on in the mornings and less on after the oil warmed up. So we had to adjust them during the day. The JD 566 you can set the wraps you want and it will constantly apply that amount of mess wrap.
It would be hard for me to go back to the JD 35 series balers. The heavier pickup and better monitor just make baling so much easier.
