Craig's list is simply the digital equivalent of the classified ads in the newspaper of days gone by. I have bought and sold on Craig's list, and have had pretty much positive experiences. There are good and bad everywhere. One has to be able to sort the grain from the chaff. I sold several cars that way and bought quite a few items. When I see warning signs like odd ways of paying, items not available for inspection, and other things like that, I just leave them alone. In the fairly recent past, I bought a couple of snow blowers. Did some repair work and resold them for a profit. UI also bought a parts truck for the engine to get a friends engine replaced.
Take reasonable precautions and it is just like answering an ad in the newspaper's classified section.
