Some time ago, I needed a replacement caliper for my gf's son's car. Local prices varied from $75 to over $150. They could not afford that. Looked on Rock auto, caliper was $59.00 BUT the shipping brought it up to local prices. I finally settled on rebuilding the caliper. Locally, parts were not available. Rock auto had the parts I wanted, and at a reasonable price - about $12.00 - but the shipping nearly doubled it. Still, a BIG saving.
Also, for those who are curious....there are only 3 parts in a caliper to go bad. The boot, the seal, and the piston. Rebuilding involves simply replacing those 3 parts after disassembly and cleaning. Simple, easy, and not very time consuming. When disc brakes became popular back in the 1970s, rebuilding was the standard repair. Now, everything is apparently intended to be throwaway junk.

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
