When we bought our place the property line e was "right at the edge of the field". I decided to put up a fence to hold something in that eats grass, so I called the farmer that owns the rest of the 160 (farms over 20,000 acres). Told him I planned to put up a fence several feet from the field and it was not a property line fence, asked if he minded. He said no problem so I did. Some days it seems like my fence has moved closer to the field but I don't worry much since I bet he has more to worry about than trying to steal a 1' wide strip lol. He has a pretty good reputation.
