If it did come on at all it would be quite dim. I had the same question about my 6V tractors and asked my EE colleagues at work what would happen. One of them hooked up an LED lamp he had laying around (one intended as an ag vehicle work light so similar in size to what I was considering for my tractors) to an adjustable voltage power supply and there was a huge difference in brightness between 6 and 12 volts. As dim as it was at 6V I figured it was no better than the stock incandescent lamps I already have.
