I'm working on a carb in an old chevy pickup (61' but engine and carb are not original, late 60's early 70's I think). Carb is a Rochester Monojet M or MV. When I got the truck the carb would leak at the area just above where the throttle plate comes out of the throttle body. After getting a kit and rebuilding the carb. I have the same problem.
Leak appears to be from the base of the "power pump" (?) shaft. It doesn't seem to me that it is a float or needle issue. When I take the top off the fuel bowl is empty. If the needle/float were the problem wouldn't it be full.
Have looked all over the net for clues and just can't seem to come up with much other than to check float/needle.
Carb will run well when at 2/3 throttle but will not idle for more than a few seconds without flooding itself and fuel dripping, then running out of this area.
Assumed hairline crack (though after extensive cleaning and looking can't find anything) and put "All-Seal" (thin layer) all over the outside/bottom of the fuel bowl.
