I needed to make a hole in my concrete foundation to bring in the lines for my central A/C. Went to a rental outfit and they wanted me to RENT an SDS drill for about $90 for the day, and to BUY the SDS bit for about another $90. HF store was right up the street. I bought an SDS drill that even came with the bit that I needed for about $60. I still have that drill and it still works perfectly. Wrenches are every bit as good as Craftsman or any of the multitude of other lower end tool sellers like DuraLast, Kobalt, and the like. Sockets are as good as any I have uses. I have a few sets that I use frequently for engine repair for "customers." They are every bit as good as S K Wayne, MAC, or Matco. Their swivel head ratchets do wear out a bit prematurely, but they cheerfully replace them.
Overall, you all can gripe as much as you want. HF is here to stay, and they will be here for a good long time after we are gone.
