My dad bought a brand new one in 1946. They are a great little tractor. They are low powered and small but the most innovative of their time and the forerunner to the modern tractor. There is a lot of interesting history about them. The 9n was designed in 1939, the 2n in 1942 and the 8n in 1948. Henry and Edsel started making tractors because Henry became disinterested in the car manufacturing because he had to answer to a board of directors after he had to go public to acquire capital. Their first tractor was the Fordson, which killed a lot of people. It was bad about rearing up. The real innovation on the n series was brought about by Ford’s brother-in-law Harry Ferguson. I have a book that details the whole thing. Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson had no contract. just a hand shake on their pardnership. Henry died, Edsel kicked Harry out and started building his own tractor. Edsel sued Harry but Harry won.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
