id look for a restored truck even older than that, the longest lasting most bulletproof truck out there with the best gas millage is a mid 90's dodge diesel with the 12 valve cummins for a gas powered rig, expect not so good gas mileage but there's more to life than gas mileage, case in point, my fleet of trucks which i have owned for a extended period of time, my oldest a '71 f350 bucket truck still on its first life, runs great will pull a small trailer but i dont, by itself this truck weighs in at 9825 lbs so it already has a load, body fair now 1 fender with rust just starting at the bottom, the usual small bumps and bangs from a 45 year working life its been as faithful a driver as it can be, not much other than the normal batteries, oil and filters tires brakes ect, my 80 chevy k-30 i found in a barn still on its first life, 55 000 miles now it was in the barn 23 years from the original owner i even have the original window sticker and paperwork ,paper recipts prove the miles are original from new and 5 thousand of that is mine ,this dually is a gas hog and should be its powertrain has a warmed up 454, 4 speed, rear gears are 4;56 ratio with a locker in the rear, at 6mpg we dont drive it unless we need it its huge deck winch comes in handy on the farm, had to replace the power steering pump, and the bearings on top of the front drive axle, thats about all, my 83 c-30 is a daily driver, 350 with a 4 speed, dually with a 12 foot dump on it , i got the gas mileage up to 12 but im not sure what i did, i had to fix the engine after i hydrauliced it in a flood trying to save the truck, just the usual stuff replaced for a hard working usually overloaded truck ,my "new "truck is a 95 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4, what a pos! it has a 350,asnd 5 speed ,gas milage os good about 23 on the road, the other trucks are all 4 speeds, but the 95 wont pull worth a darn compared to them, soft suspension, my jubilee ford with a brush hog on a steeldeck trailer behind it just about pulls the front wheels off the ground, the other 2 chevys pull that combo with no problem, the fenders and doors are rusted and i live in the dry western climate, the truck has been taken care of but ive replaced the whole steering assembly from the tie rods to the pump to the box itself and the truck is still all over the road when driving, loose as a goose other problems are frequent, that will be the newest truck i will ever own there just not worth the price give me a good old truck anyday
