I had a '57 Monterey 4 door hardtop. Mine was a medium green metallic with a white top and the same gold inlays in the rear fins. That car and I were in something like 40 states together.
I bought it in the fall of 1959 while I was in the Marine Corps. I'd owned it about 2 years and had never seen another with that color combination. Then one evening I pulled into the parking lot at the Staff NCO Club at MCAS Cherry Point and a MSgt yelled across the parking lot, "Boy, am I glad to see you!". He had a carbon copy.
Story was, he worked frequently in the evenings and drove the Merc to work. I, being a young single guy, routinely paid my respects at the local watering holes. This MSgt would go to work and his wife would go shopping in their other car. She'd see my car sitting in front of some beer joint and assume the worst without checking license plates. Poor guy was catching all kinds of flak and he was totally innocent.
I assume his wife believed him when he told her there was another identical Merc around.

If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
