hello! those are purple top eating turnips, not tillage. The Pa dutch neighbor lady used to use that shaker bottle. She taught me how to plant with it.They usually fill in,,I Have never cultivated, thinned ,irragated, and they always seem to grow.Depending on the weather some years better than others. We always had plenty. That pound more than did that patch,, I had planted some early this spring in a little strip in another spot.Turnips are aomewhat of an ongoing joke here on the site,,and I do understand why. They are not my favorite veg. ,but they are amazing in the fact that for about three dollars in seed that patch can be planted. No weeding, cultivating, etc. You get a lot of turnips.and the tops are even more nutrious than the bottoms. They can take a heavy frost and still be harvested and eaten,They keep pretty well and you will have food well into the winter.I also did a lot of experiments, and they can be made into relishes, kraut, pickles, and can be dehydrated too.I only started planting turnips because after the neighbor ladys husband passed away,,she didnt have a turnip patch for several years. She mentioned how she missed having the patch,so I asked her to teach me how to plant them.It was an honor to learn how to do it from her..and the best honor of all was when she gave me the shaker bottle and said its yours to keep,I want you to have it.That made me feel very special. Thanks for asking about the turnips, its a long story hope I didnt overdo the reply!,,,lol
