The 1999-2007 GM 1500 trucks were pretty decent trucks.
I like the looks of the 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverado's best.
I like looks of the 2003 to 2007 GMC Sierra's 2nd best.
I personally do not care for the Avalanche style fenders and hood of the 2003 to 2007 Silverados but that is cosmetic only.
1999-2002 models can be prone to piston slap. Sounds terrible on cold start but quits down as engine warms up. Does not really hurt anything according to GM.
Personally, I would go 2004 to 2007. Electric fans on engine for a tad bit more oomph verses motor driven fan and all bugs worked out.
5.3 liter is fine engine and my first choice, 4.8 is also okay. (I love the 4.3 v6 too but it is not enough motor in anything other than a regular cab. I ordered a 2001 chevy EXT cab shorbed 2WD with 4.3 v6. Did not like it. Kept it about 4 years and traded on a 2003 GMC EXT cab longbed 4WD with 5.3 liter.
Still have my 2003 GMC Sierra truck today. Looked at new 1500 trucks in March and even test drove several. Did not find anything that I liked immensely better than what I already had. Decided the heck with the new high prices. I will keep what I got.
