Thank you for the replies. I will see what I can find in terms of a magnet. Now that I think about it, I have a magnet on a long spring type of stick I picked up at a Harbor Freight years ago. If nothing comes out, I'll take the advice about forgetting about it.
Otherwise, today I did some easy things like removed 3/8" of sludge from the inside of the oil plug and replaced most of the bits of wire and bent over nails with cotter and hair pins. Also have the air cleaner disassembled and soaking in solvent. The bottom cup of the air cleaner had an inch oil soaked muck in the bottom. The carb end airline to the carburetor were relatively clean however, so the air cleaner must have still worked despite being that fouled. Thinking about dropping the oil pan to study the oil pick up and got clean away more sludge.
Ordered a couple manuals today too. Hoping for no more supply issues.
