He was ostracized because he wasn't that good at football at the NFL level. If he had turned out to be the superstar that he was hyped to be, he would've been just fine. Just because you excelled in college doesn't mean you will make it in the pros.
If you pay any attention to your local NFL team at all, 2/3 of the draft picks each year get cut before the season even starts. 90% don't make it past the first season.
