I'm not Bob, but on riding horses, they need their teeth floated for a couple different reasons. First their teeth wear in such a manner that when you put a bit in their mouth, it will rub on a "hook", and cause pain. Another reason is their teeth will get uneven and make it difficult for them to eat. I would guess Bob's were having issues with the bit, they sure looked like they were keeping their weight when I saw them.
