I was out cutting hay Saturday evening, when suddenly there was a loud racket behind me. I shut the swather down immediately, as it sounded like the fan hitting the shroud. It was, bearing went out of the water pump. Nuts!! And this is a holiday weekend too. This was on my JD swather, with a 225 slant six power plant. Several years back I bought a MF swather to cut grain with at a auction, it also was powered by a slant six. Week after the auction, the fella who had the sale phoned me and said that he had a bunch of spares for the swather there , and I wanted them , I could just come and get them. Now as I had said this was a few years back and I couldn't remember just what I had been given, a whole pickup full of parts. Anyway I went looking and sure enough brand new water pump , still in the box , complete with gasket. Caught a lucky break for sure, thanks to a thoughtful and generous retired farmer. Slipped the new pump on and finished up the next day. Hay to bale and wrap today
