How could they have been that much worse than the gas A of same vintage. The A & B of that time were the tractors I most liked to use of any tractors I ever owned. 51A, 49B, 46B & 38A. The one I did not care for but my wife liked it was the 50AR. Newest tractors owned were 65 Ford 4100, 68 Ford 4100 & 68 Ford 5100. Drove a 2020 at work, could not hold a candle to the Fords in workability or ease of handling. Drove uncles 2010 utility and 3020 row crop with wide front and you could not give me any of those tractors to use. Also had Farmal H and Moline U and Ford 2N (still have, Dad bought new in May of 44) & 9N & NAA and Ferguson TO 30. The only one of the New Generation or later that I would own would be a gas 2010 row crop or gas 1010 row crop or 1020 Gas HU.
