At 7pm on a New Years Eve in Clinton, NC, we left a liquor store in "Herm's" Cadillac. A block from the store, a local cop pulled Herm over. He knew Herm and assumed that at 7pm on New Year's Eve Herm would be an easy DUI. When the cop found Herm was cold sober, he wrote Herm a speeding ticket for going 74 in a 35 zone. which was pure fabrication.
Herm was an engineer, and when he went to court he took a slide rule (before pocket calculators) and about a ream of scratch paper. He brought up acceleration rates, terminal velocities, etc., and proved to the court that in order for him to have left the liquor store and been going 74mph where the cop said he was, his Cadillac would have had to have been capable of going from 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds, etc., etc.
The judge finally threw it out. More to just get rid of Herm, I suspect.
