Messed with it a little today, can't see / hear an air leak any more. Messed with a few of the rubber to steel fuel line connections, but that didn't do anything.
On the cold start this morning, I cranked on it for awhile, no white smoke, didn't even try to fire. Gave it just a little wiff of Ether, fired right off. I mean like boom, going?!
Ran it for 15 or 20 minutes, got it warmed up. Shut it off, and IMMEDIATLY tried to restart, same thing as when it was cold??? Cranked and cranked and cranked, but it kind of slowing fired up on its own, but acted like it couldn't get enough fuel. This time I thought, well, I'll just let it sit, so, it sat there an idled for 30 min, I drove it up the drive way and back full throttle in 4th gear, and it did as good as it always does, smoked as usual, but, it is just a small amount of black smoke.
Drove right up to the shop. let it idle for 2 or 3 minutes, then shut it of. Again IMMEDIATLY tried to restart, wouldn't go. Little tiny shot of ether, lights right off.
So, HAS to be an air leak somewhere around the pump, causing it to only get a little fuel, or none at all at a slower, cranking speed. But once it has just a little bit of Ether in it mixed with the small amount of diesel it is pushing into the cylinders, it is enough to fire it, which gets it up to speed, which makes it pump / pull fuel and purge the air faster. Right?
What are you thoughts on this, and what should I try now? Thinking about trying to put a small amount of air pressure in the fuel tank, and see if I get Diesel dripping out of somewhere? Don't want to hurt anything though? I can see myself blowing up a fuel filter or something!!! :P
