I would suggest dumping Windows Defender. It does not work as well as purchased protection. Then turn off any and ALL updates. Just about every single time any thing updates on my computer I loose some thing. Either programs not working any longer or not being able to find files/documents.
I learned how to use computers as they evolved because my job required me to be able to use them. Now that I am not longer in that job I find myself just not interested in fighting the darn things anymore. I use maybe half of the programs I used to just because they no longer work like they did or they want me to learn a completely different way of using them. I REFUSE to do that. So QuickBooks, MS Word and other programs are of ZERO use to me any longer. They quit working on my computer and I am no longer going to waste my time fooling around trying to make them work.
I kept my check book balanced for 40 years without any computer program and never had any issues. I can go back to 1970 and get my check book ledger out an look at it. I can not look at my Quicken check book records from just 3-4 years ago as the program they are on will not open with the "NEW" MS 10 compatible program. I now am back to keeping all of my financial data in ledgers just like was done for centuries. No worries of being hacked on them. LOL
My DIL keeps all of the farms records. We bought the programs and the computer she does the record keeping on is totally isolated from the internet or phone connections. In the last 5 years her system has never had an issue. The record keeping program company wants all the "new" programs to be internet bases/connected. She tried that with a separate computer. It crashed twice in under a week when things updated. She sent the program back and unhooked the computer form the internet and installed her old program. Six months later it is still working fine.

Today's Featured Article - Grain Threshing in the Early 40's - by Jerry D. Coleman. How many of you can sit there and say that you have plowed with a mule? Well I would say not many, but maybe a few. This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
