the symptoms, this machine apparently had sat for awhile when the present owner bought it cheap, the 1 intake valve did hit the piston just enough to put a tiny dent in the center top, not out by where the rings are,2 of the intake valves were slightly bent ,you have to roll them on a flat bench to see it ,, im thinking knowing the owner it suffered a case of over revving, i timed it per the manual, tdc on the crank, and the cam with the 2 holes facing up, and as far as i can tell i have it right but it could be off 1 tooth, but what i have is poor performance, it wont wind up like it should, and it burns oil, i mean it looks like a steam engine on a uphill grade, now i saw this thing run last year and while it did smoke, it didnt smoke like this, it has 110 psi compression, now one other thing i dont know about, when i take the top of the engine containing the rocker shafts off there is small amount of oil pooled on the lower side of the head, by the exhaust valves, shouldn't that drain back to the crankcase? also the head set didnt come with a gasket to go between this part and the head, nor can i find one listed for that im thinking this seals metal to metal,to keeep the rocker to valve lash in adjustment , if so can the intake stroke suck oil in around the circle that the spark plug mounts in? its possible that the engine is in time and the heavy oil consumption is the low performance problem, i think i need to solve that , then see what i have
