Lot of interesting posts here. So far, none of them an actual case where a suit was brought, heard, adjudicated, appealed(optional), and paid out.
I have lived all around the world. In a city, I likely wouldn't pull someone out unless they asked real nice. In the country, things are different. I pulled a couple of folks out just last winter up in CO, eastern slope.
Now, I think different than most folks I guess. IMNSHO, the person who knows most about vehicle chassis design should be the one hooking up the chain. So, I sometimes get wet/snowy/muddy a bit. Still haven't damaged anything, but I warn the car owner that the belly pan or bumper cover is likely to get some scrapes.
Worry over some potential lawsuit isn't a good way to go through life. Having rented residential and commercial property for a number of years, I've had my share of lawsuit stories. I get over it quickly. I'd rather feel like a human being and help someone out than be worried that the person I'm helping is going to wind up being a feminine hygiene product. :?
