The correct way to diagnose this is with a diagnostic computer. You need to read the code(s),and follow the fault tree.If the MIL(lightning bolt) light came on it should have a fault code.It CAN be a low coolant problem,or the sensor. Some engines can be programed to shut down, derate,or just turn on the MIL light for a low coolant fault.Low coolant is the first, most likely scenario,BUT,it can be a lot of other things, too! For example this could be losing ignition power for a moment. This would not log a fault, but,it would change the key on/off count, which the computer keeps.Or another thing, loss of battery power which does make a fault code.Or an oil pressure fault-the list goes on. Check the basics-coolant level, oil pressure, electrical connections, but don't throw parts at it without diagnostics.Mark
