Well I bought a Farmall 450 gas last year, had a junky loader on it, new tires, NF. It had been setting for quite a few years as the guy had become paralyzed from the waist down from a hunting accident. He finally decided to sell it. It ran, but kind of rough, but the TA worked, so that was a plus. I figured it needed a good tune up etc. After I installed the new points and plug wires that it needed, it ran much better, but now that it was running smoother, I could hear a lot of noise in the front gear train. I pulled the front end apart and it was missing many teeth from all of the front gear train. Luckily, the previous owner had resealed the front cover a long time ago, and had made a poorly fitting homemade gasket, that had quite a lip on it, holding all of the gear teeth and chips right up against the front cover. Not a bit made it into the oil pan luckily. I bought a NOS set of Cloyes HD gears off Ebay and installed all new timing gears. Cool, it runs good now, but when driving it, it has a click in the transmission, and oil leaks from all of the seals in the TA section. Oh well, I guess I better get after that, so I split it. I found the trans drive shaft/secondary sun gear shaft had a tooth broke. Replaced that with a good used. Found 3 flat T/A rollers, so I just replaced all 8. Upon looking at the TA clutch, there were several broken springs in the pressure plate, and the disc had gotten so much rust built up under the facings that they were only barely holding on. So it gets a new TA disc and pressure plate, and all new TA bearings and seals. Also new TA and clutch throw out bearings, at least the main clutch was in good shape! Next I see that the 1st and Reverse sliding gear is missing a tooth, and the 1st driving gear is really ground off, 3 teeth more than the rest. So I replaced both of those with good used. All of the bearings I cleaned up and checked over, and all were in great shape. Also checked the bull pinion bearings and the brakes, which are all in good shape. As was the ring and pinion and bull gears. I did just about cut my one finger off when I lifted the top trans shaft out and subsequently dropped it on my finger on the corner of the trans case. Installed all new trans and rear end seals except for the pto seal and axle seals (so far anyway). New gear oil in the rear end now as well. Figured while it was split I'd put a new rear main seal and oil pan gasket in it, so that's all set now. All new radiator hoses, a new valve cover gasket and valve adjust. Resealed the power steering assy, since it was leaking, and figured a new hyd pump shaft seal would probably be a good idea. Since I don't like leaks, or future leaks, I decided to replace ALL of the o-rings and gaskets on the 3 hyd remote valves and power steering supply valve. A new battery box and a full rewire job, and we are almost back together! All of this stuff is to be expected after 59 years of use, and abuse I'm sure, but if I had to hire someone to do all of this, it would have been VERY expensive. Even more expensive than it already was! But the way I see it, I'd rather be working on tractors than watching TV.
