Switzerland is a country nestled in the alps boardered on the West by France, Italy on the South, Austria on the West and Germany to the North. I was here over forty years ago and said that I will some day go back. As we left Germany we drove south along the French boarder to the town of Luzern, rented a nice hotel room and based ourselves there and took day trips on the trains to Bern the Capital and Zurick the largest city. As a person travels between the different countries since the European Union there are no boarder stops but it is very easy to get the feel of the people. I refer to the German people as the "Take Charge Society" as everybody knows how to get things done and they just go and do it. The Swiss I like to think of as a "Society of Engineers" as everything is done with such precision. They even stack their firewood with the precision of a finish carpenter. I was fascinated by the train system in Switzerland and how many they had. The station in Luzern had fourteen tracks and platforms and sixteen hundred trains a day come in and out of that station. Most all the trains are electrically powered and have a power unit on each end. Many trains will split at certain cities and each half will go to two different destinations. These cross country trains hum along routinely at a hundred and twenty five miles an hour. Another thing that was fascinating about the Swiss was their ability to build tunnels. Hundreds of them. They just finished one this last spring that is 37 miles long. Just think of boring a couple of tubes through a granite mountain for thirty seven miles. The Swiss are also noted for their cheese, chocolate, watches and secret bank accounts. Most pictures will be self explanatory. I hope you enjoy but remember that pictures just do not do it justice.

It increased the farm productivity and, in general, made life easier because more work could be done with this 'mechanical beast'. My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea
