Well, that's a good question. I think its a 6 volt starter because the battery holder holds a six volt battery perfectly and it turns over about the right speed. Its on a 1951 Shaw tractor. There was never any O & M manuals supplied with these tractors as I understand it, and the electric starters were rather rare. I acquired this tractor a few years ago and it had not been run for six years prior at least. The previous owner bought it and never had it running or did much with it - lost interest so he didn't know much about it. So I'm kind of winging it. If it is a bad bendix I will be guessing on what to order for a replacement. Thanks
