The smaller 300 and 400 series weigh respectively ~ 3,500 to 4,500 lbs. Can be trailered on a 6,000 lb trailer and pulled with a good 3/4 ton pickup. So if it looks like you need a dump truck to pull the thing, you probably do have a 500 or 600 series. They were, and still are, pretty popular with the small time excavation contractors. Your local CASE/IH dealer should be able to help you identify it. Oftentimes they will let you look through their old service manuals because they know you will be back purchasing parts.
