Recently bought a 9600 Ford and wanted to add a mechanical gauge. Only place to mount bulb is not the best place which is the drain hole for the block. First gauge would not do a thing. Second gauge when heated in a pot of water and checked against a candy thermometer it works fine. Put it on tractor and nothing. Now mind you, I had to come out of block with a 1/4" fitting then bush to 3/8" and then into a tee with bulb on one side and petcock on other. Shows no temp at all until I open petcock and flow some hot fluid through it and then when I stop flow gauge goes back and sits on lowest reading of 130. Put a torch to brass and temp jumps up. I kept thinking it was air so I plumbed it straight out of hole and made sure air was purged and nothing. Open bulb fitting and the temp comes up. Shooting brass fittings showing 160-165 and still nothing. Surely I have not gotten two bad gauges. Any thoughts appreciated.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
