When I did mine, I removed the 24 volt starter and everything attached to it and started from scratch. You need to put a Ford style solenoid between the starter button and the solenoid on the starter. I used a one wire alternator wired to the starter solenoid. I removed the dash cover and drilled and tapped 2 holes in the casting to install the solenoid, so it was hidden. If you have one local, look at a 4230 or 4430 starter button wiring. Don't over think it. I wired my button direct to the starter and when pushed it made smoke. So, I put the Ford solenoid on. I used 2, 12 volt batteries, both grounded to the trans case under the floor board, and both positives ran to the starter. I went to a truck repair shop and got a battery terminal that had a place for a cable in and out and used that for the positive side and that way I just had one cable to the battery positive post.
