If we voted by the acre, that map might mean something. But we do not and so it doesn't mean much, other than that rural precincts went overwhelmingly for Little Hands. The map gives equal weighting to Wyoming (6 people/sq mile) as Manhattan (72,000 people/sq mile). (Ignoring that the Mercator projection exaggerates the area of northern states versus southern.)
So for the second time in the past two decades, the loser of the popular vote will win the electoral vote. How many more times will this have to happen before voters get fed up with it? You can bet a lot of folks who voted for Littlefinger would be highly irate if the situation were reversed.
Actually, there's a good chance the electoral college is on its way out already. And it won't take a constitutional amendment for it to happen. Ten states and the District have enacted National Popular Vote Interstate Compact legislation, which says they will direct their states' electors to cast ballots NOT for who won in their state, but for who won the POPULAR vote nationally. It takes effect once states representing 270 electoral votes have signed on. They're currently at 165 votes.
