: : I have a 1959 JD 730 diesel standard, anyone have any opinions on these? It has been a real work-horse, and is in excellent condition, even the paint (always kept in a barn) is it worth completely restoring? popular in shows? To me the old girl (affectionatly named "bertha") is worth any TLC i can give. How many were produced? how many are still around? I am really getting into this antique tractor thing and am just looking for some info to get me started. Thanks~ : James: : There are as many opinions as people, but heres mine: DO IT! The 30 series are particularly popular because they are "the last of the two holers" which isn't necessarily logical, but there it is. There are a ton of them out there, many still earning their living, but they are already collectible and becoming more so. A rough guess based on serial number listings indicates something over 30,000 of them were produced. Considering how rugged they are, I'd assume the majority of them are still around. Check out Green Magazine for sources, info and stories. I think you said your 730 was a diesel standard. If it is an electric start standard, there were 1546 made and there were only 2213 with pony starters made. Either one is a very good tractor to restore. GO FOR IT.
