I'm getting ready to order spools of cloth covered wire to rewire the '35 Chevy truck. The wiring is all still there but much of the insulation is either completely gone or a uniform bleached gray color. I assume that it had more of the yellowish-white (they call it "oak") colored wire on it so that's what I am going to use. Did they use different colored wire for grounding like we do today? On the grain box a ground wire is braided with the hot the whole way because of the wood bed. If it used to be a different color I will wire the ground a different color (brown or dull black?), but if they were the same I might as well order two spools of the same color.
I'm thinking 14 gauge for the whole truck, but what would you use from the generator cutout to the amp gauge and then to the starter lug? I'm thinking 10. The original was surprisingly small but that generator puts out much less than 20 amps on a good day. Thoughts?
