: Does anyone know what the history on the John Deere : MI would be. I can't find any information on it. It's painted yellow and has a grass cutter mounted on the side. If you have any information please E- mail back. : Thank you : A JD MI is essentially the same as an M standard. The final drive housings are rotated 90 degrees, so that the rear wheels are a little more forward than the standard. This also lowers the machine to make it more stable on side slopes. The uprights in the front end (beam to wheel) are also shortened to match the lower rear. The hitch and lift arms may be of several designs, as they were usually built to order for whatever highway department ordered the machine (they usually came with a sickle bar mower as a package from JD). Most of them were painted yellow, although some were painted in custom colors for the purchaser (New York State used a blue and yellow color scheme, for example). Other than the above mentioned items, the MI is the same as the M. The MT (tricycle version) actually had more special parts on it than the MI did. They make a great little mowing machine.
