My Cat/Mitsubishi got to bothering last spring. I can't remember exactly, but I think both the coil and resistor tested outside of the service book parameters. Dealer quoted something like $80 and a few days to get the coil/resistor assembly. So I got a generic "no resistor required" coil. I used it some, but it would barely start. I tried a local mom and pop repair place, and they were able to get the proper coil/resistor assembly cheaper than the generic coil! It has worked fine since.
Coils/resistors/ignition systems are discussed on here frequently. I have not experienced an engine where the resistor bypass while cranking system made a lot of difference, until now. I'm thinking something about the propane makes it a lot more critical?
