International 756 is the next tractor on the place. Scratches a few itches. Gas tractor, higher hp (read discbine potential), somewhat an antique - gives us a 3rd tractor when making hay, allowing some flexibility with which tractor keeps an attachment. Cold weather starting, not an issue, no diesel wet stacking when putting around in the winter and hauling firewood.
On the list: Tune up, fresh fluids, filters and gas. 99% I'll swap in a wide front for stability, though I like the manuverability of the narrow front and tires.
Tractor starts very well (especially when the fuel is turned on.... ), seems to run OK, no piston slap or knocks. Has a tad bit of smoke out the breather at idle, seems to clear up at higher rpms. Haven't put it under load. Seller said it used some oil, but not like an old car where you added oil every time you drove it. Transmission shifts good, no clanging in reverse. Does not have TA - factory delete based on serial number. Brakes good. PTO works (both 540 and 1000) as does the 3pt hitch (does not have a fast hitch). First impression is - it seems somewhat field ready - we'll see.
I know the diesel is most desired, no more hours that we would put on this tractor, I think a gas will deliver the mail. However, if the internals of this tractor as as good as the sheet metal, I wouldn't rule out a Cummins 5.9 or International D360 transplant one of these days.
I'll have a bazillion questions on this tractor and will post over at the IH section going forward. Will also be posting on RPM too as I'd like as much info on this tractor as possible.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
