Bill, Years ago, I put snake oil in my car. It was suppose to improve mileage and reduce engine wear. Then on Christmas eve I was driving to N. Indiana to my parents, in the snow and cold traveling about 45 mph. My daughter in back seat said, "Dad what's that red light flashing on the dash?"
It was the check engine light. I stopped at a gas station, only one open. Checked, Yep I checked, I had an engine. It wasn't running hot, had oil, no idiots lights on. So I drove it about 100 miles. After christmas, I had computer scanned and the O2 sensor was bad. I bought one at auto store. Read the information of new sensor. It said that oil additives can damage it. Last time I put snake oil in my oil.
