If engine/tractor serial number is not in the expected format, the engine may have been replaced with one from an industrial application, or a factory new block and stamped (oddly) by whoever installed it.
There are casting dated on most of the components of the tractor, look for them and see how the compare... the casting dates will pre-date the assembly date of the tractor by months, maybe up to a year... they'd let the castings "season" for a while and didn't use "just in time" manufacturing, as is done today.
