'61 Ford 801 Desiel throttle

Is the throttle on my 801 desiel supposed to be backwards. When I pull the throttle back it increased the engine rpm. I just accepted it as normal until someone looking at the machine with a mind to purchase it said it was backwards. I've looked at the linkage and it appears to be stock and I can't re-arrange it to make it work any other way. What's up?
