Ford recommended 300 hours back in the 50s when oil was crap and full of parrafins, waxes, and boiled of the thinner companants and formed acids.
Modern hd oils dont have any off those problems. And if the manufacturer and oil companies both dont recommend 100 hour oil changes today.
I do every 500 hours or 5 years... the hd oils dont let acids form so longer intervals are ok. Modern hd oils start at extremely alkali at around 11.3 to 12.5 so acids from the moisture and sulfur are no longer an issue. Low sulfur fuels also even help more. If your worried, do oil analysis and then you can change your oil on perfect timing as the additives are depleted and soot and wear metals start to accumulate and the oil shows near 7 on the base/acid scale. Modern hd oils even have additives that keep the soot and other materials from clumping together so that they stay at a microscopic size and can not damage the engine.
If your not running an hd oil, then by all means change early and often as your engine is sludging up and dying anyway.
