I do not see it quite the same way. I think Sears could have been very successful with online selling early on because it had not yet compromised the quality of its key lines such as Craftsman. Would it have been as profitable as an Amazon? Probably not as it had the overhead in buildings across the US. But it would have been in far better shape than it is at present. At the same time there is some truth in upper management getting more than its share of blame. I have and my wife has had relatives that worked for Kodak. I do blame the execs in part because their bonuses were too much tied with the cash cow of film production. At the same time they would have taken a lot of heat from the stock broker set if they had too much in R & D even for a good reason because it would have taken too much off the bottom line. Years ago I did get the chance to meet Kodak CEO Kay Whitmore although there was really no one on one discussion.
