I too will drive out of my way to avoid them. Here in the DFW metromess they are steady building for profit toll roads, hoping to cash in on those willing to pay to get around traffic gridlock.
My concern with using them is their aggressive approach to collecting. If something goes wrong and you don't get the bill, or they claim you didn't pay, the late charges are horrific! Plus it goes against your credit, and you can't renew your registration or drivers license.
There have been many stories on the news of this happening, many more that don't fight it and just pay. Seems they conviently made sure there is no way to fight it, or question it, just pay it!
There was one recently that the vehicle owner proved the car that was charged and the bill was bungled was 200 miles away the day it was charged with the toll! Took him months of letter writing, finally got the local news consumer action team to embarrass them into admitting their mistake! That one toll turned into thousands or dollars while they mailed late notices to the wrong address.
