I had a 283 that was kind of an odd ball, it was a 1982 model made in Great Britain and the serial # was short a few numbers. I have an old, well established family owned/operated MF dealer. When I went in for a part the first time they said I needed more numbers in serial #, I went back home and made sure that I had not missed any. When I got back to dealer a daughter of the owner helped me and I explained what had happened and she knew immediately why my tractor was not in the computer, she reached under the counter and pulled out a big old dusty book, found my serial # and was able to look up any part I needed from then on! I had to sell my tractor in Sept. 2015 due to health reasons, it was a great, strong machine, I sure do miss it...
