Thanks to everyone who replied to my earlier post. I took the clutch apart and found that a previous owner had reassembled the bearing, oil seal, and flat washer in reverse order, so the bearing was basically floating around loose on the crank snout! I also found that the operating bolts were rusted and sticking in their bores. Cleaned them up, put clutch together, worked well. Just ordered a new clutch cover (the old one was missing) and it won't go on! The operating bolts are sticking out too far. There is no major wear on the toggles, dogs or operating sleeve. The bolts are actually different lengths, and two of the three have two cotter-pin holes drilled in them. At S/N 20400 or so, the operating bolts increased in diameter from 7/16" to 1/2". Is this because the smaller ones actually stretch over time? That would certainly go along with the excessive, variable lengths, and the attempt by someone to fix it by drilling new holes. Anyone who knows, please feel free to e-mail directly: charlesmorris@erols.com , or post it here! thanks.
