: : I have a JD 2010 that has been modified to a negative ground system. The generator has been replaced with an alternator. I would like to wire up a volt/amp meter to monitor the charging system. Does anyone know how I might do this? Any other ideas to keep an eye on the charging system? Thnx Dave, All john deere tractors after the 20 series have volt meters and 12v neg. gnd systems. You could wire a 12vdc voltmeter in paralle with the system by attaching the postive terminal of the gauge to the key switch where the alternator ignition wire is and run the neg. terminal to frame ground. this will give you a switch operated gauge showing battery voltage with the key switch in the run position, engine off and charging system voltage with the key in the run position and the engine running. You'll be able to tell if the charging system is operational by turning the switch on and noting the battery voltage, then starting the engine and noting charging system voltage. Battery voltage should be 11-12v and charging should be 13.5-14.5v I hope this helps a little Brendon
